Overview of Malvern

The town of Malvern is located Northwest of Heathrow Airport a distance of 123 miles that would take around 1 hour 15 minutes by taxi via the M4 and M5. It is situated in Worcestershire and has a population of 28,749 according to the 2001 Census. It is thought that the name means 'Bare Hill' and was originally called 'Malferna' in the 11th century.

The ancient site of 'British Camp' an iron age earthworks on a summit of the Malvern Hills is one of a number of similar sites in the area. The town was founded in the 11th Century by Benedictine Monks who built a Priory at the foot of the highest peak of the Malvern Hills, the town developed around this and it later became a Spa town due to health-giving properties of Malvern water and the natural beauty of the surroundings. And it was during these times between the 17th-19th Centuries that many of the towns houses, villas and hotels were built.

The town has many places of interest and attractions to offer visitors and tourists, the surroundings offer scenic views over both counties of Hertfordshire and Worcestershire. Historic places of interest include The Priory Church of Saints Mary and Michael, The Church of St Giles, St. Annes Well and Croome Park. There are also many places for leisure activities such as The Winter Gardens Complex with incorporated Cinema, Concert/Banquet room, bars and cafes, Great Malvern Theatre and The Splash Leisure Complex.
